The LCK will implement a new playoff structure beginning in the spring of 2023, as well as changes to the roster size and the makeup of the team’s training group.
LCK Spring 2023 changed the format of the game
LCK and LCK CL (2nd division), two teams, will be combined starting in the spring of 2023. Teams might include as few as 11 players and as many as 20 players.
The LCK and LCK CL tournaments are still separate events in the Korean League of Legends tournament system. Now, though, teams can decide which players from the main roster will play in the CL, and vice versa.
The teams’ executive and coaching staffs will be enlarged. As a result, teams may have a head coach for both LCK and LCK CL teams.
The guaranteed minimum pay for a player in the LCK will remain at 60 million won per year. In contrast, a player in the LCK CL is guaranteed a minimum annual wage of 20 million won.
For at least 5 players on the LCK squad, teams are required to pay the minimum salary. The teams must pay the remaining players the LCK CL’s guaranteed minimum wage if the LCK squad has more than 5 players. Teams are required to increase their fees based on the number of games played if a player is not paid the minimum pay for the LCK.
The minimum age of players in the LCK CL has been changed from 16 to 15 years old in order to provide young talents more playing opportunity. Additionally, the LCK CL will use the same format as the LCK for both the group stage and the knockout round. Beginning with the 2023 LCK Spring Split, these modifications will be in force.
LCK Introduces a Double-Elimination Playoffs Format for 2023
The 2023 season will see some significant changes, according to the League of Legends Korean Championship (LCK) announcement on November 18. The knockout rounds will follow a two-time knockout format starting with the Spring Split in January 2023. It is noteworthy that the Korean league switched to a knockout style in 2012, when teams are eliminated with just one defeat.
A further benefit of the new modifications is that LCK teams will be able to merge their rosters with their Challengers League (CL) squads. On paper, the new format adjustments seem quite fascinating and promising overall. Here is all the information we currently have on the 2023 LCK revisions.
Five teams advanced to the knockout stage in the LCK in 2015, and six teams will do so in 2021. But the knockout nature of this style is still present. The LCK’s spring and summer playoffs in 2023 will have five best series instead of the regular three.
New competition format LCK 2023
In each split, six teams will earn a spot in the knockout round, with the winning and runner-up teams receiving byes to Rounds 2 and 3 respectively. The third-through-sixth-placed clubs will fight in Round 1, and the third-placed team will get to pick whether they face the fifth or sixth team while the fourth-placed team gets to play the other. The losers from the first round will be eliminated, while the winners advance.
The double knockout starts when there are only four teams left, therefore fans should be aware of this. The two Round 1 winners will compete for the first seed in the regular tournament, and the second team in the group will face the other team. The two victors advance to Round 3 of the upper bracket, while the two losers face off in the lower bracket.
While the victor of Round 3 of the upper bracket advances directly to the LCK Grand Finals, the loser of Round 3 of the upper bracket falls to the lower bracket and will meet the victor of Round 3 of the lower bracket in Round 4. A best-of-five (BO5) format will be used for all knockout games.
